  1.        INFORMATION ABOUT THE CAD Gene™ 2.0 DEMO

  3. CAD Gene™ is a novel program of interest to molecular 
  4. biologists and to all scientists who use the techniques of 
  5. DNA cloning in their work.  It applies the powerful 
  6. tools of computer-aided-design and the interactive-graphical
  7. Macintosh interface to the problems of cloning project design.
  8.  
  9. CAD Gene™ runs on the Apple® Macintosh™.  It requires System 4.1
  10. or later and Finder 5.3 or later.  It is 32-bit clean, and is
  11. compatible with System 7 and the Power Macintosh.  To use the
  12. tutorial file distributed with this demo, a word processing
  13. program capable of reading Microsoft Word™ 5.x files is 
  14. needed.

  16. Contained in this distribution are the following files:
  17.  
  18. 1.  CAD Gene™ 2.0 Demo.  This is the main body of 
  19. executable code for the program.  Printing and saving
  20. of files has been disabled.
  21. 2.  CAD Gene Tutorial.  This manual provides a tutorial 
  22. introduction to the use of the program.
  23. 3.  Sequence Formats file.  Contains the information to 
  24. support foreign (DNA) sequence files, restriction enzyme 
  25. lists.
  26. 4.  Data Tablets file.  Contains the subroutines to 
  27. support sequence entry with graphics tablets.  This file 
  28. is not necessary if a data tablet (graphics tablet) will 
  29. not be used for sequence entry.
  30. 5.  CAD Gene™ Help file.  Contains information for 
  31. on-line program help.
  32. 6.  CAD Gene™ Preferences.  Contains default settings 
  33. for restriction digest group, genetic codes, etc.  A 
  34. preferences file must be present for the program to run.
  35. 7.  Sample files folder.  Contains the sequence files 
  36. described in the CAD Gene™ tutorial.

  38. As in any unique program, the function of CAD Gene™ may 
  39. not be initially obvious to the user.  For this reason, 
  40. we strongly encourage new users to go through the 
  41. exercises extensively detailed in the tutorial.

  43. The tutorial does not attempt to demonstrate all of CAD 
  44. Gene™'s features, but it should give the user a feel of 
  45. how the program functions.  The user is encouraged to 
  46. try out other features that are not included as part of 
  47. the tutorial.

  50. its interface intuitive, powerful and user-friendly.

  52. The demo program will not save files nor print results. 
  53. All other program functions are enabled.
